It made its competitive debut at the Australian Grand Prix and was driven by Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas. The car was designed under the technical direction of Pat Symonds and featured a Mercedes PU106C Hybrid V6 power unit. The FW38 sported a predominantly white livery with blue and red accents, representing the team's main sponsors, including Martini. Throughout the season, the car demonstrated consistent performance, securing multiple points finishes and a few podiums. The team finished fifth in the Constructors' Championship, amassing a total of 138 championship points. The FW38's best result came at the Canadian Grand Prix, where Bottas finished third.
