As its owner gets ready for the race up in the mountains and awaits the fog to vanish, the drift beast rests under neon lights.
For this piece my goal was to shine a light on the iconic Lancer Evo VIII. The whole scene was build to emphasize its street roots as I remember from the NFS games and specially F&F Tokyo Drift, using colors inspired by the city and steep mountains in the background, the perfect place for a drift session, even with occasional fog and rain, typical atmosphere of highland regions.
Motivated by Lawrence Sher's work on films, this became also a really cool study of lightning and composition. Besides using different values of light, I experimented a few things along the way and opted to use a bright ciane blue to create depth through color and set the ambient mood, contrasting with the vivid and warm red of the car and pinkish neon sign of the diner.
