Where Cars Are Born

I had this idea on the back of my mind for quite some time now, I wanted to move as far away as possible from the classic clean look car render. Don't get me wrong, I love them, but with this project I wanted to go to the other side of the spectrum and I though that a car factory was the best place to go.

Some of the models are free cad models available online, like the robotic arm(from ABB company website), electric boxes and lots of different pieces to assemble the weld gun and add details, there are something like 2000 screws.

All the cad models are meshed in Rhino and then imported into 3ds Max, the car frame is available to purchase online and everything else like all the arm and factory cables and cables rigging, assembly parts together, and the factory itself I've model in 3ds Max. The scene is 45mil polys but it only took 4.6Gb of VRAM on my GPUs, including materials that are about 300Mb.

Not one single object in the scene has UVs mapping , everything is done 100% procedurally using noise, dirt maps, triplanar mapping and 6 black and white 4k textures.

I've done just a little bit of post mainly to punch a bit more the vignette and the light around the sparks, but nothing more, sparks and smoke are made using Pflow inside 3ds Max.

It was a long journey but I've learned a lot, and I'm very happy with the result.

I hope you like it.
